How to Make Your Coils and Pods Last Longer

A Quick Vape Tip from L7 Vapors

Replacing coils and pods is a normal part of maintaining a vape device, but they should not need to be replaced every few days under normal use. A few simple habits can help improve performance, maintain flavor, and reduce premature coil or pod failure.

Let a New Coil or Pod Sit Before Using It

After filling a new pod or installing a new coil, allow it to sit for approximately 5–10 minutes before using the device.

This gives the e-liquid enough time to fully absorb into the cotton inside the coil. Using it too quickly can cause the cotton to heat before it is properly saturated, resulting in a burnt taste that may permanently damage the coil.

Start at a Lower Wattage

For adjustable-wattage devices, begin near the lower end of the recommended wattage range printed on the coil.

Gradually increase the wattage until you reach the flavor and vapor production you prefer. Running a coil at the highest possible wattage can place additional stress on the coil and shorten its usable life.

Keep Enough E-Liquid in the Pod or Tank

Do not allow the e-liquid level to drop below the coil’s wicking openings.

When the cotton is not receiving enough e-liquid, it can dry out between uses. Keeping the pod or tank properly filled helps the coil remain saturated and reduces the chance of a burnt hit.

Avoid Constant Back-to-Back Hits

Repeated hits without a break can use e-liquid faster than the coil can absorb it.

Allowing a few seconds between hits gives the wick time to pull more e-liquid into the coil. This is especially important when using higher wattage settings or taking longer draws.

Use the Right E-Liquid for Your Device

Different devices are designed to work with different types and thicknesses of e-liquid.

Smaller pod systems generally perform best with thinner e-liquids, while larger tanks and higher-powered devices may be better suited for thicker blends. Using an e-liquid that is not appropriate for the device may cause leaking, poor wicking, weak performance, or premature coil failure.

Know When It Is Time for a Replacement

Even with proper care, coils and pods will eventually need to be replaced. Common signs include:

• Burnt or unusual flavor
• Reduced vapor production
• Weak or inconsistent flavor
• Darkened e-liquid inside the pod or tank
• Leaking or gurgling that continues after cleaning

Replacement frequency will vary based on the device, wattage, e-liquid, and individual use.
