Why L7 Vapors Recommends Standard Vape Devices Over Disposable Vapes

Disposable vapes are convenient. We get it. Open the package, use it, toss it when it’s done, repeat the process until your favorite flavor suddenly disappears from the shelf like it owed somebody money.

But with the way the vape market is changing, L7 Vapors is strongly recommending that more customers consider switching to a standard vape device instead of relying only on disposables.

By “standard vape device,” we mean refillable pod systems, vape kits, tanks, coils, and bottled e-liquid options. These are the devices you keep, refill, recharge, and maintain instead of throwing away after each use.

The short version: standard vape devices are usually cheaper over time, offer more flavor flexibility, create less waste, and are more likely to remain available after January 1, 2027.

Standard Vape Devices Usually Cost Less Over Time

Disposables are easy, but that convenience usually comes at a higher long-term cost.

With a disposable vape, you are buying a battery, hardware, coil, e-liquid, packaging, and branding every single time. Even when the device still physically works, once the e-liquid is gone, the entire thing gets tossed.

With a standard vape device, the upfront cost is usually higher, but the long-term cost is typically lower because you are only replacing what actually needs to be replaced.

That usually means:

A refillable device or pod system

Replacement pods or coils as needed

Bottled e-liquid

Occasional accessories

For customers who vape regularly, the savings can add up quickly. It is not exactly thrilling math, but it is math that keeps more money in your pocket.

More Flavor Options

Disposable vapes are limited to whatever brand, model, and flavor combination happens to be available from distributors that week.

Standard devices give customers far more flexibility.

With bottled e-liquids, you are not locked into one disposable brand’s flavor lineup. You can choose from salt nicotine, freebase nicotine, different bottle sizes, different nicotine strengths, and a much wider range of flavor profiles.

That matters because the disposable market changes constantly. One month a flavor is everywhere. The next month it is gone, renamed, reformulated, delayed, or replaced by something with a name that sounds like it was created during a sugar rush.

With a refillable device, if one flavor disappears, there are usually more comparable options available.

Less Environmental Waste

Disposable vapes create more waste because each device includes a battery, plastic or metal housing, electronics, and leftover components that are discarded after use.

Standard vape devices are reused. You still replace coils, pods, and bottles, but you are not throwing away an entire device every time the e-liquid runs out.

So yes, standard devices generally have less environmental impact than disposables.

If you are into that kind of thing, great. If you are not, the cheaper-over-time part is still sitting right there doing all the heavy lifting.

Availability Is Becoming the Biggest Issue

The most important reason we are recommending standard vape devices is simple: availability.

Tennessee’s vapor product rules are changing. The Tennessee Department of Revenue states that beginning January 1, 2027, vapor products not listed in the state’s vapor product directory cannot be sold for retail sale in Tennessee. Products not listed in the directory after that date may also be subject to seizure, and sellers may face penalties.

That means customers should expect the disposable category to become much less predictable.

Some products may remain available. Others may not. Some brands may change their product lines. Some flavors may disappear. Some devices may not make it onto the directory at all.

The FDA also states that, as of May 2026, only 45 e-cigarette products are authorized for lawful sale in the United States. That is a very small number compared with the massive number of disposable devices, flavors, brands, and models currently seen across the market.

This does not mean every standard vape device or e-liquid is guaranteed to remain available forever. Nothing in this industry gets that kind of clean, simple answer because apparently that would be too convenient.

But compared with disposables, standard devices and refillable systems give customers more flexibility. You are not dependent on one exact disposable model, one exact flavor, one exact importer, or one exact SKU being available.

Why January 1, 2027 Matters

January 1, 2027 is a major date for Tennessee vapor product compliance.

Tennessee’s Department of Revenue has stated that vapor products not included in the state directory cannot be sold for retail sale in Tennessee beginning on that date. The state also says the vapor product directory will be published beginning January 1, 2026 and updated at least monthly.

For customers, that means the products available in stores may look very different after the rule is fully in effect.

Disposable vapes are expected to feel the biggest impact because so many popular disposables depend on very specific product registrations, supply chains, and manufacturer certifications.

Standard devices, refillable systems, and bottled e-liquids may provide a more stable path because customers can change flavors, change brands, change coils, or change pods without needing to abandon the entire setup.

Disposables Are Convenient, But Convenience Has a Catch

We are not pretending disposables are useless. They are popular for a reason.

They are easy.

They are simple.

They do not require much maintenance.

They work well for customers who do not want to deal with refills, coils, settings, or carrying a bottle of e-liquid.

But convenience has a catch. When availability changes, disposable users often have fewer backup options. If your favorite disposable brand or flavor disappears, you may have to start over with a completely different device.

With a standard vape device, the device stays the same. You just change the liquid, pod, or coil.

That is a much easier adjustment for most customers.

Standard Devices Give You More Control

A standard vape setup gives customers more control over the experience.

Depending on the device, customers may be able to choose:

Flavor

Nicotine strength

Salt nicotine or freebase nicotine

Pod or tank style

Coil resistance

Airflow

Vapor production

Battery capacity

Refill schedule

Disposables are mostly “take it or leave it.” Standard devices give you more room to dial things in.

And if you are not interested in becoming a vape hobbyist with a backpack full of spare parts, that is fine. Modern pod systems can be simple, compact, and easy to use without turning your nightstand into a science project.

What L7 Vapors Recommends

If you currently use disposables, we recommend talking with our staff about comparable standard device options.

You do not have to jump straight into a big mod, tank, and cloud setup. Many customers moving from disposables do better with compact refillable pod systems that feel familiar but offer more flexibility.

A good transition setup may include:

A simple refillable pod device

A flavor similar to your current disposable

A nicotine strength that fits what you are used to

Extra pods or coils

Basic instructions so you are not standing there wondering why your vape suddenly tastes like a campfire

Our staff can help narrow the options down based on what disposable you currently use, what flavor profile you like, and how simple you want the device to be.

The Bottom Line

Disposable vapes are convenient, but standard vape devices are usually the better long-term option.

They are typically cheaper over time.

They offer more flavor choices.

They create less waste.

They give customers more control.

Most importantly, they may be easier to keep using as Tennessee’s vapor product rules become stricter after January 1, 2027.

If you currently rely on disposables, now is a good time to consider a backup plan. Not because the sky is falling, but because the disposable market is getting less predictable.

L7 Vapors can help you find a standard device setup that makes sense without making the process more complicated than it needs to be.

Stop by either L7 Vapors location and ask our staff about switching from disposables to a refillable device.

L7 Vapors Hemp Product Update: Hemp Sales Will Pause Starting July 1, 2026

Beginning July 1, 2026, L7 Vapors will be halting sales of Delta and hemp-derived cannabinoid products at our stores.

This decision is based on upcoming changes to Tennessee’s hemp product regulations, the way those changes are expected to affect available products, and our desire to make sure L7 Vapors continues operating carefully within current guidelines.

Tennessee has been updating how hemp-derived cannabinoid products are regulated, including oversight, licensing, product requirements, and restrictions on certain product types. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture notes that hemp-derived cannabinoid laws and permanent rules have already been part of the state’s regulatory structure, and the state has continued moving toward tighter control of these products.

For L7 Vapors, the practical result is simple: rather than rush into a changing product category with uncertain availability and customer demand, we are choosing to pause hemp product sales and re-evaluate the category over the next few months.

Why We Are Making This Change

The hemp product category in Tennessee is changing quickly.

New state requirements are affecting what products can be sold, how they are handled, and which products vendors are able or willing to supply. Tennessee’s 2025 hemp legislation overhauled parts of the regulatory structure for hemp-derived cannabinoid products, including supplier, retailer, and wholesaler requirements.

Because of those changes, the products available after July 1 may look very different from the products many customers are currently familiar with.

That creates a few issues:

Customers may not want the replacement products that remain available.

Vendors may change product lines quickly.

Some currently popular products may no longer be practical for us to carry.

The category may require more time to settle before we can make a responsible long-term decision.

Rather than stock products that may not match customer expectations, we believe the better move is to pause, review the market, and make a more informed decision once the new rules are fully in effect.

What Products Are Affected?

This pause applies to L7 Vapors’ hemp-derived cannabinoid products, including products commonly referred to as:

Delta products

Hemp-derived cannabinoid products

Hemp gummies

Hemp vapes

Hemp flower or similar products, where applicable

This change does not affect our regular nicotine vape products, e-liquids, devices, coils, pods, disposables, or accessories.

Will L7 Vapors Bring Hemp Products Back?

Possibly.

We are not saying this category is gone forever. We are saying that L7 Vapors is going to take a step back and review what the market looks like after the law changes take effect.

Over the next few months, we will evaluate:

Which products are available from reputable vendors

Whether those products fit the new Tennessee requirements

Whether the remaining product options are something our customers actually want

Whether customers are willing to migrate to products that may be different from the popular items they are used to

Whether the category makes sense for L7 Vapors long term

That last part matters. If the only products available are options customers do not want, then carrying them just to technically keep the category alive would not make much sense.

Retail shelf space is not a museum. If customers do not want the new version of the category, we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Why Not Just Replace Everything Immediately?

Because replacement products are not always equal.

A product may technically be available, but that does not mean it matches what customers have been asking for. Potency, format, ingredients, packaging, flavor, effect profile, and customer familiarity can all change.

We do not want to tell customers, “It’s basically the same,” when it may not be.

That is why we are giving the category time to settle. Once vendors, regulators, and manufacturers adjust to the new Tennessee rules, we will have a better idea of what products are realistic, compliant, and worth offering.

What Customers Should Expect

Starting July 1, 2026, customers should expect L7 Vapors to stop selling Delta and hemp-derived cannabinoid products while we review the category.

During this pause, our staff can explain what has changed from a store-policy standpoint, but we cannot provide legal advice or make claims about what customers should personally use.

We will continue focusing on the product categories that remain core to L7 Vapors:

Nicotine e-liquids

Disposable vapes

Pod systems

Mods and tanks

Coils and replacement pods

Accessories

Customer support from staff who actually try to help instead of just pointing vaguely at a shelf

Our Position

L7 Vapors has always tried to adapt as the market changes. We have seen major shifts before, especially with disposables, e-liquids, and hardware trends.

This is another one of those moments.

The difference is that hemp-derived products are now facing major regulatory changes in Tennessee, and we do not want to move blindly. We would rather pause the category, review the available options, listen to customer feedback, and decide whether it still fits our stores.

If the category stabilizes and there are products that make sense for our customers, we will re-evaluate.

If the available products do not match what customers are looking for, we may choose not to bring the category back.

The Bottom Line

Beginning July 1, 2026, L7 Vapors will halt sales of Delta and hemp-derived cannabinoid products due to changes in Tennessee’s hemp product regulations and uncertainty around future product availability.

We will review the category over the next few months and decide whether it makes sense to bring hemp products back based on vendor availability, product compliance, customer interest, and whether customers are willing to move toward different types of products than the ones currently popular.

We appreciate our customers’ understanding while this category goes through yet another round of “because apparently simple was not an option.”

Disposable Vape Availability Update: What Customers Should Expect

Federal import enforcement and supply chain disruptions are expected to impact disposable vape availability across the market.

Based on recent federal activity and information we are receiving from our vendors, L7 Vapors is expecting possible shortages and inconsistent restocks on several popular disposable brands, including Lost Mary, Foger, and Geek Bar.

This does not mean every product will disappear overnight. It does mean availability may become less predictable, and some favorite devices, flavors, or models may be harder to find from week to week.

What Happened?

U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently announced Operation Red Mist, a large federal enforcement action involving millions of e-cigarette products moving through maritime cargo shipments.

This operation is part of a broader federal effort to review imported vapor products and enforce current federal requirements.

Because many disposable vape products are manufactured overseas and move through complex import channels, increased federal review can affect product flow before products ever reach distributors, wholesalers, or retail stores.

In plain English: when shipments are delayed, held, reviewed, redirected, or removed from the supply chain, retail availability can change quickly.

What Brands Could Be Affected?

Based on current vendor communication, L7 Vapors is expecting possible supply issues involving:

Lost Mary

Foger

Geek Bar

These are some of the most requested disposable brands in the category, so even temporary disruptions can create noticeable gaps in availability.

We want to be clear: this is not a statement that any specific product at L7 Vapors is being sold outside of current guidelines. This is a market-wide supply issue tied to import activity, federal review, and distributor availability.

What Customers May Notice

Customers may begin seeing changes such as:

Fewer available flavors

Certain models becoming harder to restock

Popular devices selling out faster than usual

Longer gaps between shipments

Replacement models appearing in place of older favorites

More frequent changes in what distributors have available

Disposable vape inventory has always moved quickly, but this type of enforcement activity can make the category even more unpredictable.

Basically, if you have a favorite disposable, there is a chance it may not be sitting on the shelf every single time you come in. Annoying? Yes. Surprising? Not really. This industry does enjoy making simple things complicated.

Why This Affects Retail Stores

Retail stores like L7 Vapors do not control federal import reviews, manufacturer shipments, customs activity, or distributor stock levels.

We order from our vendors based on what is available to us. If vendors cannot reliably get certain products, retail shelves can be affected quickly.

That means a product may be available one week and delayed the next. In some cases, a brand, flavor, or model may become unavailable with very little notice.

What L7 Vapors Is Doing

L7 Vapors is staying in contact with vendors and monitoring product availability closely.

When certain disposable brands or flavors are unavailable, our staff will do what we can to help customers find the closest available alternative.

That may include:

Comparable disposable options

Similar flavor profiles

Different puff-count devices

Pod systems or refillable options for customers wanting more consistency

We know customers have favorites. We also know nobody wants to hear, “We’re out of that one,” especially when that one was the one. Our goal is to make the backup plan as painless as possible.

Should Customers Be Concerned?

There is no need to panic. However, customers should be aware that disposable availability may be less consistent for a while.

If you regularly use Lost Mary, Foger, Geek Bar, or another popular disposable, it may be a good idea to ask our staff what similar options are currently available.

We are not recommending panic buying. We are recommending flexibility.

The disposable market is shifting, and the customers who are open to comparable alternatives will have the easiest time navigating it.

The Bottom Line

Operation Red Mist is a major signal that federal agencies are increasing their review of imported vapor products before they reach the U.S. market.

Based on what we are hearing from vendors, L7 Vapors expects this may affect disposable vape availability, especially for popular brands like Lost Mary, Foger, and Geek Bar.

We will continue working to keep adult customers informed, stocked where possible, and prepared with alternative options when favorite products are delayed or unavailable.

Tennessee Vapor Product Compliance

What L7 Vapors Customers Should Know (2025–2027)

At L7 Vapors, transparency matters. Tennessee has enacted new vapor product regulations that will roll out in phases between 2025 and 2027. We want our customers to understand what’s changing, what isn’t, and how it may affect product availability—without confusion or misinformation.

This page explains the rules in plain English and why you may see certain products gradually phased out over time.

🟢 Phase 1 — Compliant Operations Through December 31, 2026

For customers, nothing changes immediately.

What Is Allowed Right Now

  • Vape retailers may sell vapor products not yet listed on the Tennessee Vapor Product Directory

  • Retailers may continue purchasing those products through December 31, 2026

  • Products currently on our shelves are lawfully sold

If a product is available at L7 Vapors during this phase, it is legal to sell.

What L7 Vapors Always Does

  • Strict 21+ age verification

  • Ongoing employee training

  • Full tax compliance through licensed Tennessee distributors

  • Accurate inventory and purchase records

🟡 Phase 2 — 2026 Transition & Risk Reduction

While customers may still legally purchase existing products, this is when responsible retailers begin planning for the upcoming cutoff.

What Happens Behind the Scenes

  • Monitoring the Tennessee Vapor Product Directory as it is published

  • Identifying products that are:

    • Missing from the directory

    • Pending approval

    • Likely to be denied

  • Reducing deep inventory on uncertain products

  • Disabling risky auto-ship or long-lead distributor orders

What Customers May Notice

  • Certain flavors or devices may not be reordered

  • Limited quantities on select items

  • Gradual phase-outs instead of sudden removals

These decisions are made to ensure compliance—not to limit customer choice.

🔴 Phase 3 — January 1, 2027: Hard Cutoff

Beginning January 1, 2027, Tennessee law becomes strict.

What Retailers May NOT Do

  • Purchase vapor products not listed on the state directory

  • Accept shipments of non-listed products

  • Transfer non-listed inventory between store locations

  • Restock non-approved SKUs for any reason

Invoice date is the determining factor.
If a product was purchased after January 1, 2027 and is not directory-listed, it is non-compliant.

Sell-Off Period (Approximately First 60 Days of 2027)

Tennessee law allows a short sell-off window.

What Retailers MAY Do

  • Sell only non-listed products that were:

    • Lawfully purchased before January 1, 2027

    • Still physically in inventory

What Retailers MAY NOT Do

  • Reorder non-listed products

  • Accept delayed shipments ordered earlier

  • Transfer inventory between locations

  • Claim sell-off protection without dated invoices

Once the sell-off window closes, enforcement becomes zero-tolerance.

🚨 After the Sell-Off Period Ends

After the grace period:

  • Selling any non-directory product is illegal

  • Products may be seized or destroyed

  • Civil penalties apply

  • Violations can stack per SKU, per day

This is why proactive compliance matters.

Why This Matters to Our Customers

Our commitment is simple:

  • Stay open

  • Stay compliant

  • Protect customers and staff

  • Continue offering quality products responsibly

If a product disappears, it is not arbitrary—it is compliance-driven.

We will continue communicating changes well before they affect availability.
If you ever have questions, our team is always happy to explain.

Where Did All the Good Vapes Go?

If you’ve been hunting for your favorite disposable vape lately, you’ve probably noticed our shelves look a bit like they were hit by a tornado—a very specific, bureaucratic tornado. You’re not imagining things. Finding your go-to disposables is suddenly a high-stakes scavenger hunt, and we’re right there with you, cursing under our breath.

So, what’s the deal?

The short answer is the FDA. Yes, the same folks who decide what’s in your cough syrup are now apparently running a tight ship on vape imports. In their infinite wisdom, they’ve decided that most of the popular disposable vapes you love—the ones with all the delicious, non-tobacco flavors—are “unauthorized.” It’s like they declared a war on fun, one vape at a time.

This means that while you were trying to restock on your favorite flavor, the FDA and Customs and Border Protection were busy playing a high-stakes game of “catch and seize” at the ports. Millions of dollars worth of vapes have been confiscated, turning the supply chain into a minefield. It’s not that we don’t want to sell them; it’s that we literally can’t get our hands on them without a government-issued permission slip, which, spoiler alert, no one has.

What L7 Vapors Is Doing to Keep You Vaping

We know you’re not here for a lecture; you’re here for a vape. And trust us, we’re doing everything we can to get them to you. Think of us as your vape-smuggling allies, but the legal kind.

  • We’re the Indiana Jones of Vapes: Our team is on a constant quest, digging through the wreckage of the supply chain to find new, compliant, and equally awesome vapes. We’re doing our best to find and stock alternative products to ensure you can continue to enjoy your vaping experience.
  • We’re Here to Help You Adapt: Your favorite brand might be MIA, but that’s not the end of the world. Our team can help you find a new favorite, whether it’s a compliant disposable or a pod system that will save you a ton of money in the long run.

Navigating this mess is a pain, and we appreciate your patience. The next time you walk into our store and ask where all the vapes went, just know the FDA is probably to blame. But don’t worry, we’re doing our best to give them a run for their money. We’ll find a way to keep you happy, one compliant vape at a time.

WTF, Where Are My Geek Bars?!?

WTF happened to Geek Bars?

We get it — you walked into the shop or hit us up on the phone looking for your go-to Geek Bar, and we hit you with “Sorry, we’re out.” Again. So what’s really going on? Why have Geek Bars basically vanished off the face of Tennessee (and beyond)? Let’s break it down in plain terms.

🚫 They’re Getting Snatched at the Border

Geek Bars — like many other flavored disposables — don’t have FDA approval. That makes them technically unauthorized to sell in the U.S. Customs knows this, and they’re seizing huge shipments at the ports before they ever reach stores.

Translation: we can’t sell what never makes it through the front door.

💸 Tariffs Are Kicking Everyone’s Butt

Earlier this year, the U.S. dropped massive new tariffs (a fancy word for import taxes) on Chinese-made vape products — as high as 145% in some cases. That makes it way more expensive for distributors to bring them in, so most have either stopped importing Geek Bars entirely or are moving super limited quantities at inflated prices.

🕵️‍♀️ The Feds Are Cracking Down Hard

The FDA and Department of Justice are also running raids and shutting down warehouses full of unauthorized vapes, including Geek Bars. Some shipments have been destroyed. Some are stuck in limbo. It’s a whole mess.

⛓️ Supply Chain? More Like Supply PAIN

Even for legit shops like us, the supply chain has become a total disaster. Distributors who used to send us 100 boxes are now sending 5… or none. Everyone is scrambling to get product, and when it does show up, it sells out fast — often in hours.

🤔 So… Are They Gone Forever?

Not necessarily — but don’t expect shelves to stay stocked. Some manufacturers are trying to move production out of China (hello, Mexico and Malaysia), but that takes time. Geek Bars might make a comeback later this year, but for now, it’s survival mode.

🔄 What Can You Do?

  • Check in often – we restock when we can, but it goes fast.
  • Try alternatives – we carry brands like Lost Mary, Raz, Spaceman, and Flum that are still available and deliver killer flavor.
  • Ask us for recs – our staff knows what’s legit and what hits closest to the Geek Bar vibe.

💬 Final Thought

You’re not crazy. Your favorite disposable didn’t vanish because of some secret vape cabal. The combo of seizures, taxes, crackdowns, and chaos just put Geek Bars (and some others) on the endangered list.

We’ll keep fighting to bring you the best, legal products we can — and we’ll keep it 100 with you every step of the way.

– Team L7 Vapors

(Yes, we miss them too.)

🌟 New Vape Laws, What’s Currently in Effect (as of July 1, 2025)

New-July-2025-TN-Vape-Laws

1. Taxation

10% excise tax on the wholesale cost of all vapor products (open-system) now applies statewide.
$0.07/mL tax on closed-system (pre-filled disposables) took effect the same day.
A monthly filing requirement via Form TOB‑552 ensures accountability among wholesalers.

🆔 2. Age ID Enforcement

Retailers must check a photo ID for any customer who looks under 50—rewinding Tennessee’s previous “under 30” threshold—making July 1 the new marker.
No ID = no sale, no exceptions.

🚨 3. Enforcement Authority & Funding

The Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC) now shares enforcement responsibility.
At least two unannounced compliance checks per retailer are mandated each year, with timely follow-ups.
12.5% of all vapor excise tax revenue is earmarked for enforcement operations—funding ABC activities directly.

⚖️ 4. Penalties

Under‑21 sales: first offense incurs a $2,500 fine; second offense triggers at least $20,000 plus license revocation  .
Unlisted product sales: first offense up to $500 per product, escalating at second and third violations to license suspension/revocation  .
Advertising violations (targeting minors or near schools/churches): 30-day correction window, followed by fines up to $2,500, and $20,000 + licensing loss for repeat offenders.

⏳ What’s Coming Soon — Timeline of Upcoming Restrictions

 August 1, 2025
Manufacturers must register products with Dept. of Revenue. Annual $25 fee per SKU. Retailers can only buy from licensed wholesalers.

January 1, 2026
Vapor product directory goes live. Only listed products can be sold—unlisted products face 60-day sell-through, then potentially seizure.

January 1, 2027
Full enforcement: unlisted products are banned from retailing; continued sale is illegal.

📌 Summary

Already in effect:
Dual taxation: 10% wholesale + $0.07/mL disposables
ID required for all purchasers appearing under 50
ABC enforcement with two annual compliance checks and dedicated funding (12.5% of tax revenue)
Heavy penalties for underage sales, unlisted products, and improper advertising

Coming up:
Aug 1, 2025: registration for manufacturers + mandatory sourcing from licensed wholesalers
Jan 1, 2026: directory launches; 60-day phase-out for unlisted product inventory
Jan 1, 2027: unlisted vape products fully prohibited

✅ What This Means for Customers & Shops

Expect higher product prices due to the new tax.
Store staff must vigilantly ID-check any buyers who look under 50.
Manufacturers must be directory compliant or risk banned products.
Shops should track the timeline, clearing unlisted stock before January 2027.
The ABC is on the move—enforcement checks are increasing, and rule-breaking will carry significant fines.

Tennessee Hemp Law Update: What It Means for You

Tennessee Hemp Law Update Graphic

With the passage of new legislation in Tennessee, big changes are coming to the way hemp-derived products are taxed, sold, and regulated. We’ve received a lot of questions, so here’s a straightforward breakdown of what’s happening—and how it will impact you as a consumer.

New Tax Structure

Starting January 1, 2026, Tennessee will eliminate the current 6% “hemp privilege” tax. In its place, a new wholesale tax will increase the effective rate to 10%. This tax will be applied earlier in the supply chain, but you’ll likely still notice a difference at checkout.

Key Changes You Should Know

1. Fewer Products on Shelves

Many hemp-derived cannabinoid products (HDCPs)—including those containing THCa, THCv, Delta-8, and Delta-10—will no longer be legal for retail sale in Tennessee. This means fewer options will be available in-store.

2. Limited Retail Availability

You won’t find HDCPs at gas stations, convenience stores, or supermarkets anymore. Going forward, these products will only be available through licensed retailers regulated by the Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC), such as liquor stores and specialty hemp/vape shops. These locations will be 21+ only.

3. No Online Sales or Delivery

Under the new law, online ordering and home delivery of hemp-derived cannabinoid products will be banned. All purchases must be made in person at approved retail locations.

4. Higher Prices Likely

Between increased taxes and stricter product limitations, you may notice higher prices on HDCPs. Retailers may need to adjust pricing to manage higher costs and reduced product selection.

5. Stricter Packaging & Marketing Rules

Expect to see tighter regulations on packaging and advertising, especially when it comes to anything that could appeal to minors. This is part of a broader effort to align hemp laws with Tennessee’s alcohol regulations.

6. Industry Uncertainty

As with any major shift in regulation, there’s still some legal gray area. Future lawsuits or amendments could further change how these laws are enforced.

The Law Behind the Changes

These updates come from legislation passed in 2025:

  • House Bill 1376 (HB1376) – Introduced and passed by the Tennessee General Assembly.
  • Senate Bill 1413 (SB1413) – Companion bill in the Senate.
  • Signed into law by Governor Bill Lee on May 21, 2025.
  • Officially recognized as Public Chapter No. 526.

These new rules will go into effect on January 1, 2026.
